Under 16s – Boys and Girls (Aged 14-16)

The Under 16s team is for boys and girls aged 14-16 (School Year 9-11) from Potton and the surrounding area. This stage marks a pivotal time in a player's development as they progress into more competitive football, with a focus on refining their technical and tactical abilities.

Training sessions are designed to enhance advanced football skills, including ball control under pressure, tactical passing, clinical finishing, and defensive positioning. Players are encouraged to understand and implement more complex tactical principles, such as maintaining defensive shape, building from the back, high pressing, and effective counter-attacking. Set-piece routines and positional play are further explored to add depth to their game understanding.

Under 16s players regularly compete in league matches, cup competitions, and friendly fixtures. The emphasis is on teamwork, leadership, discipline, and sportsmanship, with a focus on integrating individual skill development into a cohesive team dynamic. Coaches prioritise helping players refine their decision-making and situational awareness to prepare them for more advanced levels of football.

Physical conditioning becomes increasingly important, with training sessions including fitness drills aimed at improving strength, agility, endurance, and speed. Mental resilience and focus are also key components, with a particular emphasis on developing players’ psychological toughness, confidence, and tactical intelligence on the pitch.

The Under 16s programme aims to prepare players for the next level of their football journey, whether that means progressing to senior football, representing local clubs, or continuing their development in higher-tier youth systems. The environment is competitive yet supportive, ensuring players are constantly challenged while maintaining a love for the game.
